4 NATIONALITIES IN ONE BOAT

On 26 February 2017, the College of Europe entered a team — organised by the student Sara Leonor DUQUE — in the Bruges boat race for the first time ever.

This race is a major event on the Belgian rowing calendar and attracts over 700 rowers from all over the world. In addition, every year many spectators follow the course of the race, running from Nieuwege Bridge to the KRB Club House.

The mixed team, composed of Julian CHAN (Hong Kong), Sara DUQUE (Porto), Salvatore VERNUCCIO (Rome) and Rebecca RYDER (Galway), rowed last Sunday in a cox quadruple scull. The team managed to row 5 km under 27 minutes. We are proud of this accomplishment and we hope that we have started a tradition that will continue for many years!

A word of thanks from our rowing team:

"We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the brilliant organisation and support on the part of the Rowing Club (KRB). We are particularly grateful for the assistance of Mr Frank POTTIE, from the College of Europe Host Family Project, our main liaison.

And we can't thank our colleagues and host families enough for coming out to support us on the day of the race. They were like an extra set of oars to help carry us over the finish line.

It was an unforgettable weekend!"
