Maltese National Evening

The College of Europe, Bruges campus, has not had a Maltese student for at least two years, so Eugenie MEGALLY (MA in European Political and Administrative Studies, 2016/2017) made sure to celebrate the Maltese Islands in a big way! The Soirée Maltaise was organised with a lot of effort and much pride. Guests were greeted with delicious Maltese wine sent over by Emmanuel Delicata Winemaker, and Maltese delicacies sent to Bruges courtesy of Eugenie's aunt, Margarita MEGALLY CASSAR. All this delicious unique food could not have been shipped over without the support of the Corinthia Group of Companies. A glimpse of Malta was shown through photography captured by Kris MICALLEF in his exhibition "Mis-sema ‘l Isfel", and some of Eugenie's own photography from a perspective of a native who has lived away from the islands for the past decade. Traditional lace made by Eugenie's grandmother, Doris CASSAR, was also on show. The event ended with a heartfelt documentary called "IsleLanders", on the ongoing crisis of migration between Africa and Malta, by Darrin ZAMMIT LUPI. If you haven’t watched it yet, it is an absolute must! All in all, the event captured the essence of what Malta truly stands for by highlighting its culinary traditions, its character and its warmth.
