Polish Society commemorates the 78th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising

On Monday 19 April 2021, the Polish Society of our Bruges campus distributed paper daffodils to students and staff in Garenmarkt during the lunch break to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, the largest single revolt by Jews during World War II.  Every year on this day, Polish citizens wear paper daffodils to remember the uprising. This year, in particular the role of women in this brave combat was honoured. The daffodils campaign was initiated by the Museum of History of Polish Jews (POLIN) in 2013 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising.  Daffodils are associated with Marek Edelman, the last Commander of the Jewish Combat Organization. Every year on the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising he placed daffodils at the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes in Warsaw. Marek Edelman passed in 2009. #RememberTogether #WarsawGhettoUprising
