On 27 February 2019, in the framework of the Master of Arts in Transatlantic Affairs (MATA) study programme, the College of Europe and the U.S. Mission to the European Union, organised a seminar at the United States Mission to the European Union in Brussels.
Following a welcome address by Ms Christina TOMLINSON, Minister Counselor for Public Affairs at the Mission, the group of thirteen students, accompanied by the MATA Academic Assistant Yana BROVDIY, participated in two consecutive round-tables: a first one on U.S. Foreign Policy issues with Mr Henry HAGGARD, Deputy Minister-Counselor for Political Affairs; and a second one on the U.S. Commercial Services and the U.S.-EU Trade Relations with Mr John D. BREIDENSTINE, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs and Senior Commercial Officer for Europe. The group also had a chance to meet the U.S. Ambassador to the European Union, Gordon SONDLAND, who answered students’ questions about various aspects of his work.
These discussions broadened students’ understanding of the current state of transatlantic affairs and importance of the U.S.-EU relations.
