The Chair of Transatlantic Trade and Economy, in cooperation with Microsoft, hosted a private discussion on the implications of a rapidly evolving geopolitical environment for European policymaking and transatlantic relations. Bringing together policymakers, business leaders, experts, and practitioners, the event provided an opportunity to reflect on the European Union's international priorities and the future of cooperation between Europe and the United States.
The conversation featured Simon Mordue, Diplomatic Advisor to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in dialogue with Ian Lesser, Chair of Transatlantic Trade and Economy. Discussions focused on how the European Commission's external priorities have evolved in response to geopolitical developments and examined prospects for transatlantic cooperation on trade, security, and global challenges.
Held under Chatham House Rules, the event encouraged an open exchange of views on the strategic choices facing Europe and North America in an increasingly uncertain international landscape. A moderated discussion with participants explored emerging policy trends, potential areas for deeper transatlantic cooperation, and the challenges that could shape the agenda in the years ahead.
