Second semester

During the second semester, students follow one compulsory course, which is dedicated to the future of Europe and taught and assessed in French. In addition, students need to select five elective courses from the three thematic clusters offered within the programme: Geopolitics of Southeastern Europe, Europe in the 21st Century and Democracy and Rule of Law in Europe. At least one elective course per cluster is offered in French. A compulsory week-long simulation game also takes place at the beginning of the second semester. Finally, similar to the first semester, optional compact seminars and workshops are organised. The compulsory language courses will continue running throughout the second semester as well.  

Below is a more detailed description of the content of each of the clusters offered.

Cluster 1: Geopolitics of Southeastern Europe

The first cluster will offer a series of courses focusing on the geopolitics of Southeastern Europe. This cluster will offer courses on the following thematic areas:

  • EU as a Foreign Policy Actor;
  • Peacebuilding and Reconciliation;
  • Russia and China in Southeastern Europe;
  • Regional Cooperation in Southeastern Europe.

Cluster 2: Europe in the 21st Century

The second cluster will focus on the challenges and opportunities in Europe in the 21st century. This cluster will offer courses on the following thematic areas:

  • Demographics and Migration;
  • Social and Economic Disparities;
  • Climate Change and Energy Transition;
  • Digitalisation and Digital Sovereignty

Cluster 3: Democracy & the Rule of Law

The third cluster will focus on democracy and the rule of law in Europe. This cluster will offer courses on the following thematic areas:

  • European Transformation and Democracy;
  • Democratic Consolidation and the Rule of Law in Southeastern Europe;
  • Media Freedom and Disinformation in Southeastern Europe;
  • Organised Civil Society in Southeastern Europe.
