Michael is a senior public policy professional with 25 years experience in the UK public and private sectors, and in the international policy arena. He combines technical economics and public policy expertise, leadership experience and first rate communication skills. Michael joined the NAO in 2010 as Chief Economist and Director of VfM Practice and Quality, where he has built the NAO’s analytical capability and led Value for Money studies. He holds non-executive advisory roles with the Centre for Economic Performance at the LSE and the Nuffield Centre for Social Investigation at Oxford; he is a peer expert for the OECD; and lectures at the LSE and Oxford Blavatnik School of Government. He has previously held senior roles at Deloitte and the Department for Communities and Local Government, and has worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund in Washington DC, HM Treasury and the Institute for Fiscal Studies in London.
