Professor R. Hrbek is Honorary Professor of the Department of European Political and Governance Studies, College of Europe since January 2023. He has taught at the College between 1979 and 2022. He is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Tübingen – Chair for Political Science (1976–2006). His major fields in teaching and research are political systems in Europe (focus on political parties/party systems, territorial structure, governmental system); political system of the EU (focus on multi-level governance, with special attention to the role of political parties, interest organizations, the civil society and regions/municipalities); and study of federalism (since 1993 chairing the European Centre for Research on Federalism – EZFF/ECRF – at the University of Tübingen). He is also a visiting professor in prestigious universities in the USA, Switzerland, Italy and Thailand. His works have been published widely in edited volumes and leading journals (publication list with approx. 300 titles). He is co-editor of three book series, has been engaged in academic associations and networks, and is involved in several research projects.
