Sebastian Kurpas has been team leader for relations with the Council in the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Trade and Economic Security (DG TRADE) since 2021. He previously worked in the Secretariat-General of the European Commission for 12 years as policy coordinator and expert on a broad range of issues (trade policy, institutional questions, EU external relations, briefings for the Commission President).  From 2003 to 2009 he worked as a Research Fellow and Head of the “Politics and Institutions” section at the Brussels-based think tank Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS). Kurpas studied law and political science in Freiburg, Germany, and Grenoble, France. He holds a law degree from the University of Freiburg, a Master of European Public Administration from the College of Europe in Bruges and a PhD in political science from the University of Tübingen, Germany.
