Cross-Cultural Communication Workshop for Natolin students

On 12, 13, and 14 October 2022, the Student Affairs and Professional Development Office (SAPDO) organized a workshop on Cross-Cultural Communication for the Natolin students of the David Sassoli promotion delivered by Prof. Paul KALFADELLIS, Director of the Master of Global Business programme at the Monash Business School in Melbourne, Australia.

The workshop aimed to provide students with an awareness and understanding of the matters that enable them to communicate effectively across cultures, which they also experience at the College of Europe.

After examining the nature of culture and identity, the workshop considered how cultural values are expressed in social behaviour and communication, including verbal and non-verbal cues in different societies and contexts. The relevance of culture, and its impact on communication practices, was analyzed and illustrated in various cultural contexts. Cultural value orientations were explained and compared in different cultural contexts to highlight and understand the differences.

The workshop also enabled students to appreciate how cultural values affect communication patterns in the workplace and in society in general. It concluded with a reflection on the factors that help individuals to achieve cross-cultural communication competence.
