High-Level Security Talk with the Director General of the Council of the Baltic Sea States, Mr Gustav LINDSTRÖM

The College of Europe in Natolin was privileged to organise a High-Level Security Talk titled "Changed Geopolitical Context in the Baltic Sea Region" with Mr Gustav LINDSTRÖM, Director General of the Council of the Baltic Sea States.

The Director General delivered an introductory speech, during which he shared his experience leading the Secretariat and his work at the EU Institute for Security Studies offering a nuanced perspective on emerging challenges and regional cooperation. 

The  speech was followed by a Q&A discussion, moderated by Prof. Sławomir DĘBSKI.

 

About the speaker: 

Mr Gustav LINDSTRÖM is Director General of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) Permanent International Secretariat in Stockholm since 1 September 2024. Prior to assuming his current role as Director General of the CBSS Secretariat, Mr LINDSTRÖM served as the CBSS Secretariat’s Deputy Director General from September 2023 to August 2024. From January 2018 to August 2023, he was the Director of the EU Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) – the European Union’s agency analysing foreign, security and defence policy issues based in Paris. Earlier in his career, he served as the Head of the Emerging Security Challenges Programme at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP). In this function, he was also co-chair of the Partnership for Peace Consortium (PfP-C) Emerging Security Challenges Working Group and a member of the Executive Academic Board of the European Security and Defence College. Prior to his tenure at the GCSP, he was a Research Fellow and later a Senior Research Fellow at the EUISS. He has also worked at the RAND Corporation and the World Bank. Mr LINDSTRÖM holds a doctorate in policy analysis from the RAND Graduate School and a master’s degree in international policy studies from Stanford University.
