Natolin Students Visit Konin Power Plant | Climate and Energy Transition Nest

The Climate and Energy Transition Nest of the College of Europe in Natolin was pleased to organise a field trip to ZE PAK’s Konin Power Plant, which is the oldest brown-coal-fired power plant in Poland.

The field visit offered Natolin students a valuable opportunity to see the energy transition unfold beyond the classroom.

During the visit, students:

  • observed the company’s transition strategy aimed at phasing out lignite and expanding renewable energy sources;
  • toured both decommissioned and operational facilities, including biomass-based generation units and a green hydrogen electrolyser;
  • explored the redevelopment of former industrial and mining areas, including initiatives to transform these sites into future tourist attractions.

The visit provided students with first-hand insight into the challenges and opportunities associated with large-scale energy transformation and regional economic transition.
