Public Speaking and Presentation Workshop with Ms Anna KALCZYŃSKA

On 8 November 2022, Natolin students of the David Sassoli promotion were offered the opportunity to attend the last Professional Development session offered by the Student Affairs and Professional Development Office (SAPDO) for the first semester, on "Public Speaking and Presentation". The session was conduted by Ms Anna KALCZYŃSKA, Polish journalist, one of the hosts of "Dzień Dobry TVN" and alumna of the College of Europe in Natolin.

This interactive session covered three major areas of public communication: public presentation (outlining the basics of stress management, standing in front of an audience, knowing their strengths and weaknesses), TV interviews (explaining how to address the conflicting goals of the journalist and the guest, body language, public appearance, time as a key factor), and concluding with an overview of a panel moderation focusing on understanding the role of a neutral but engaged host, respecting the speakers and the audience (the balance of power), the elements of speech control (being polite but decisive), and factors to consider (audience, time control, essence of the conversation, side plot).

In addition to the theory, Ms KALCZYŃSKA shared her own experience of being associated with television for years and working in the European Commission within the Press and Communication Department. The session also included a Q&A portion with students, encouraging them to take the floor in front of their fellow classmates in order to complete some exercises and then to record themselves and gain an understanding of how to work with a camera.
