GCLC Conference (SGEI) The Reform of State Aid Rules on Services of General Economic Interest From the 2005 Monti-Kroes Package to the 2011 Almunia Reform
On 30 September 2011, the College of Europe and the Global Competition Law Centre (GCLC) organized a high-level conference on the Reform of State Aid Rules on Services of General Economic Interest (SGEI). This exclusive event provided a unique and comprehensive presentation of the new SGEI Package proposed by the European Commission.
The programme featured a speech by Joaquín ALMUNIA, Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Competition, who presented the reform, participated in a panel discussion and answered questions from the audience. Top-level European Commission officials explained the content and objectives of the new rules.
Presentations were also given by high-level speakers from the European Parliament, national legislatures and administrations, academics, private practitioners, and stakeholders from the main sectors concerned (such as transport, post, energy, audiovisual and social services).
The conference proceedings have been compiled in a booklet, which can be downloaded below.
