Special Meeting with Ms Krystyna BUDNICKA (Hena KUCZER), a Warsaw Ghetto Survivor

A partir de 11:30 till 12:30
Winter Garden
Natolin (Warsaw) Campus

The College of Europe in Natolin organised a special meeting with Ms Krystyna BUDNICKA, a Warsaw Ghetto survivor. The event took place ahead of the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, commemorated annually on April 19.

The Guest's testimony gave students the opportunity to hear a first-hand account from a Holocaust survivor while also explaining the Daffodils Campaign (Akcja Żonkile). Daffodils have become the symbol of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, honouring the memory of the 13,000 Jews who perished while resisting the Nazi occupation in Warsaw.

About Ms Krystyna BUDNICKA

Krystyna BUDNICKA (born Hena KUCZER in 1932) is a Holocaust survivor, social activist, and honorary citizen of Warsaw. At just 10 years old, she witnessed the deportation of two of her brothers and their families to the Treblinka extermination camp during the Grossaktion Warsaw in 1942. She survived the Warsaw Ghetto and the 1943 uprising by hiding in bunkers before escaping through the sewers with the help of the Polish Council to Aid Jews "Żegota", the only state-sponsored organisation in Europe which rescued Jews during World War II. After the war, she stayed in Poland and pursued pedagogical studies to become a teacher, and - later - an advocate for Holocaust remembrance. As a member of the Association of Children of the Holocaust, she has dedicated herself to sharing her story to educate future generations.
