A group of thirteen students of the Natolin (Warsaw) campus of the College of Europe organized a TEDx event entitled "(When) It’s Up to You", which took place at the Natolin campus on 6 April 2016.

At a TEDx event, local organizers bring together people around a shared theme to spark deep discussion and connection. They are independently organized, but feature TED standards (www.ted.com) across the globe. TEDxCollegeOfEuropeNatolin was an independently organized TED event, aimed at launching discussions around the subject of "choice".

This TEDx event featured a diverse group of innovative thinkers from many different walks of life, who each presented a talk on "choice" from a different perspective. The line-up consisted of:

  • Mr Kamil ADAMCZYK: the co-founder and CEO of Inteliclinic Inc., a customer electronics, wearable technology, and Internet of Things hardware studio that creates devices which use artificial intelligence methods for precise biological signals processing. Mr ADAMCZYK shared his view on choice in terms of the sharing economy and start-ups.
  • Mr Laurin BERRESHEIM: College of Europe, Natolin student. Formerly tutor at Freie Universität Berlin and winner of the Natolin TEDx student speaker competition. Laurin discussed existential and ordinary choices – the very choices that make us who we are.
  • Mr Michael BOCIURKIW: a development and communications expert and international correspondent, who has covered news stories from some of the most dangerous places in the world and worked with UNICEF, OSCE (Spokesperson), CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, NPR and CBC. Mr BOCIURKIW told us about important choices concerning current global challenges and migration.
  • Mr Yves DEJAEGHERE: a lecturer at the University of Antwerp; working on political socialization, elections and political elites. Mr DEJAEGHERE talked about "public choice theory": the use of economic tools to deal with traditional problems of political science.
  • Mr Matthew KAMINSKI: Executive editor of Politico Europe. Given his influence in EU media, Mr KAMINSKI’s presence on our TEDx stage added fascinating insights.
  • Ms Anna WICHA: General Manager at Adecco, Country Manager for Adecco Poland. Ms WICHA gave us her thoughts on choice when it comes to recruiting and headhunting.
  • Mr Marcel ZEELENBERG: a researcher and lecturer at Tilburg University; works on economic psychology, behavioural economics, and decision research. Mr ZEELENBERG talked about the science of regret.

The event featured a special appearance by the Natolin Choir. The talks finished at 18:30, and all attendees, speakers and sponsors were invited to dinner in the Natolin Palace. For more information, see our website www.tedxcollegeofeuropenatolin.eu or follow us on FacebookTwitterInstagramLinkedIn.
