Lilian Mathieu is Director of Research at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) and a member of the Centre Max Weber, Ecole normale supérieure de Lyon. He is a Sociologist and Political Scientist, specialised in social movements and contentious politics, art and politics, and authoritarianism. He has published many books and articles, especially about the May 68 revolt, migrant mobilisations, the fight against AIDS, the alterglobalisation movement, artists’ public commitments, and the political dimensions of cultural industries. He is now conducting comparative research about the Vichy regime and the last Argentinian dictatorship.

He has taught in different French universities–Paris X-Nanterre, Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, Paris 8-Saint-Denis, Lumière-Lyon2, Sciences-Po Paris, Sciences-Po Lyon–and has been visiting professor at the Galatasaray University (Istanbul), the East China Normal University (Shanghai) and the Friburg University. He is a member of the editorial board of the Revue française de sociologie.
