Job Vacancy - Google Chair in Digital Innovation at the College of Europe

The College of Europe is seeking applications for the position of a part-time professor (up to 50%), with a starting date as early as possible but 1 September 2017 at the latest.

The successful candidate will hold the Digital Innovation Chair financed by Google. The Chair is based in the Department of European Economics Studies in Bruges and the Chair holder will report to the Director of the Department.

The scope of the Chair is wide. Applications are welcome from specialists on the economics of digital technologies and policies, who have multidisciplinary interests and a track record, as well as specialists from related disciplines with expertise in issues such as innovation, big data, networks and information society.

Minimum requirements:

  • appropriate academic qualifications;
  • several years of university-level teaching experience in the field;
  • a substantial publication record in the field;
  • a very good command of English and French;
  • well established contacts with European institutions, business and other actors in the field.

Tasks include:

  • teaching a Master's level course on digital innovation and digital policies in the European Economic Studies Programme in Bruges;
  • supervising a limited number of Master's theses in the field;
  • conducting independent research and publishing in the field;
  • organising conferences and guest lectures on digital innovation and policies;
  • being present in Bruges on a regular basis.

The College offers the following conditions:

  • a part-time contract under Belgian law (up to 50%) renewable on three-year basis;
  • half-time Research Assistant to help the Chair holder with research, teaching, conference organisation and dissemination activities;
  • a benefits package (covering accommodation and travel costs).
