EU-funded project El-Hiwar II — Second Summer School on Euro-Arab Relations

The second Summer School on Euro-Arab Relations, organized by the College of Europe Development Office in the context of the EU-funded project El-Hiwar II, took place from 12 to 16 July 2021.

This year, the Summer School focussed on people-to-people relations (diplomacy, culture, youth, migration, etc.) as indeed the first edition had identified that it was the area with the strongest potential to bring the two regions (Europe and the Arab region) closer.

A total of 20 participants coming from European and Arab countries and with various backgrounds— civil society, officials, representatives of international organisations, researchers, cultural organisations —joined the course following an open call for applications.

The training included lectures after which participants had to work in idea labs to elaborate political and social recommendations. Also, as young leaders of Euro-Arab relations, participants attended skills-oriented workshops (how to advocate ideas, how to build intercultural skills, how to raise funds, and how to communicate with impact). The group also engaged in exchanges with EU and Arab League officials.

An immense thank you to the amazing trainers and the fantastic participants for their commitment, very positive energy and for being inspirational young leaders ready to promote and deepen a human-centric cooperation between Arab and European citizens.

El-Hiwar II: Training and Information Course on Euro-Arab Diplomacy, is a project funded by DG NEAR and implemented by the College of Europe. It is conceived as a dialogue tool for the EU and the LAS to support strengthened work relations and to learn about each other's functioning, mechanisms and policies.
