On 8 May 2024, Natolin's Geostrategy Nest organized a simulation game focusing on nuclear security during armed conflict. The format of this game differed from that of other simulation games as it offered students the opportunity to apply various skills learned throughout the year.
About the scenario:
This engaging event was designed to challenge students' understanding of international security and nuclear risks in the context of armed conflict. The participants were thrust into the high-stakes environment of NATO, the European Union, and their allied nations. The mission? To strategize and negotiate diplomatic and military responses to the looming threat of military assaults against nuclear plants in war zones. Students explored the precarious balance between maintaining peace and securing nuclear facilities, assessed the risks these assaults pose in escalating conflicts into broader wars, and proposed innovative solutions to enhance global nuclear security.
About the instructor:
Dominik P. JANKOWSKI is a security policy expert, diplomat, and think tanker. He currently serves as Deputy Permanent Representative of Poland to NATO. From 2018 to 2023 he served as Political Adviser and Head of the Political Section at the Permanent Delegation of Poland to NATO. He specializes in NATO-Russia and NATO-Ukraine relations, arms control, disarmament, non-proliferation, and energy security. In 2019, he was the James S. Denton Transatlantic Fellow with the Center for European Policy Analysis (CEPA) in Washington, D.C. He was also a 2021-2022 Arms Control Negotiation Academy (ACONA) Fellow with Harvard University. He is a prolific writer with over 250 publications that have appeared in 20 countries.
