63 Years of the Elysée Treaty and the Franco-German Friendship

Did you know that the Élysée Treaty was signed on 22 January 1963 by the leaders of France and Germany?

Through this treaty, they chose to establish new relations between both countries and to seal a long-lasting friendship.

Last night, our French and German student-led societies marked this anniversary by organizing “63 Years of the Élysée Treaty and the Franco-German Friendship” event, bringing together the French and German Ambassadors to Albania on our Tirana campus.

Both ambassadors reflected on how close cooperation between France and Germany has shaped the European project, from its early days to current debates on EU enlargement.

They discussed the role of diplomacy, the work of the two Embassies, and their shared engagement in Albania, especially in supporting the country’s path towards European Union membership.

More than an anniversary, the event was a reminder that European integration is built not only on treaties and institutions, but on dialogue, trust, and long-term commitment.
