The student life of of our students is double as the students can enjoy the pleasures of the city of Bruges as the multitude of activities offered on campus. Besides being part of the student community of the College of Europe, they can benefit fully of what Bruges and its surroundings has to offer.

Student Life in the city of Bruges: 

Student visits and events are organised in order to familiarise the students with the host country.

The Local Committee for the College of Europe is bringing together representatives of the City of Bruges and representatives of the College in an effort to promote the integration of the students of the College in the community of Bruges by organising events of a social and cultural nature.

Cultural activities

Students enjoy preferred access to museums, classical and modern music concerts as well as numerous theatre performances in the City of  Bruges with special discounts for students.

Amongst others, open air winter and summer concerts, music festivals, the yearly Christmas market and Ice sculpture festival are organised by the City of Bruges.

Cinema facilities are also available.

Sports activities

Students enjoy preferred access to sports facilities in Bruges.

Each year, a race takes place in the town of Bruges “Dwars door Brugge” (“through Bruges”). The yearly "Running Tour" gathers high-level participants of the Belgian town races in which students can part take.

Additionally, various sports clubs are accessible in Bruges such as tennis, rugby, hockey, fencing, kickboxing and dancing clubs.

Various sports venues, fitness club centres with solarium as well as swimming pool centres are easily accessible.

Leisure activities

Around the historical centre of the City of Bruges, students can enjoy a great social life. Ample cafés, restaurants with traditional and international cuisine, wine bars and pubs offer students the opportunity to discover the city's multifaceted night life.


Bruges is conveniently located allowing students easy access to rail and air transport. Brussels is one hour away by train.

From the Bruges railway station trains to Brussels generally depart twice an hour, from the early morning to the late evening. See for the detailed schedule.
Numerous student fare tickets as well as weekend rail fare tickets make it cheaper for the students to travail around Belgium and Europe. 

There is one Thalys speed train a day from Bruges to Paris, while high speed trains from Brussels leave frequently for London, Paris, Amsterdam, Cologne and Frankfurt.
Taxi and bicycle facilities are also available in the city.

Student Discounts

Besides numerous discounts that students benefit from for transport, retail outlets, hotels, restaurants, museums, cultural events and tourist activities in Bruges, the students also receive the "Bruges Student City Student Card" offering them special rates in many more places. 

Student Life on the Bruges campus

The College of Europe offers its students a wide range of facilities. All students are allocated an individual room with private bathroom* and cleaning service in a student residence.

In addition, each room has free network and Internet access. Each residence features common rooms, equipped with a refrigerator and microwave.

Student representatives are elected to represent student views and to serve as liaison between the administration and the students.

The students are supported in all aspects related to their time spent at the College by the Student Affairs Office, particularly on practical matters related to administrative issues and everyday student life.

The Student Affairs Office assists students in the organisation of conferences as well as a series of national events and other social activities celebrating the diverse cultural heritages of their respective countries.

Student debates, plays and sporting events are important features on the annual student calendar. Teams of students also participate in international academic competitions.

Student visits and events are arranged to familiarise them with the host country.

Bruges is conveniently located allowing students easy access to rail and air transport. Brussels is one hour away by train.
