Charity Club "Helpende Hand" runs successful Saint Nicholas charity campaign

On the recent occasion of Saint Nicholas Day, yearly celebrated on the 6th of December, the Student Charity Association of our Bruges campus organized another praiseworthy and very successful charity campaign.

"We asked Bruges chocolate shops to donate chocolates or cookies. Quite a few shops supported us with some chocolates, but Maison la Confiance gave us 160 speculoos cookies, a gift which we really appreciated! We then sold stickers in the canteen to our fellow students. They could indicate the name of a friend, write a short message and then hand back the stickers to us. We stuck them onto the little chocolate bags we packed from the donations and handed them out in each residence and off-campus in the night between the 5th and the 6th of December for Saint Nicholas", explain Aoife CURTIN and Anna-Lena SIEHR, board members of our "Helpende Hand" Charity Association.

"We were able to collect 691 euros with the Saint Nicholas activity. Together with the money made during the Harry Potter Quiz and last week's Christmas card sale, we raised the grand total amount of 901 euros during this first semester of the academic year. The money will go to Open Balie, a local organisation providing weekly meals for approximately 50 disadvantaged and/or homeless people. We met two of their representatives on Friday 17 December to hand over the money. They invited us to come to the center next semester to see exactly what they do and explained that the money will be used to increase the facilities offered in the local homeless shelter and to provide Christmas meals to families in need over the next couple of weeks."
