Diplomatic training in Peru of future Peruvian diplomats

The Diplomatic Training in Peru, organised by the College of Europe from 16 to 20 May, brought together future Peruvian diplomats keen to learn about the functioning and current key issues of the EU.

This edition took place at the Diplomatic Academy of Peru “Javier Pérez de Cuéllar”  and has been developed in collaboration with the Delegation of the European Union to Peru and the OEI – Organization of Ibero-American States.

The training supports the dialogue between the European Union, Peru and Latin America, contributing to the strengthening of multilateral links.

EU institutions, Commission priorities and environmental strategies were analysed by the participants, along with key issues, such as geopolitics and the Common Security and Defence Policy. Participants also took part in a practical simulation of the EU's complex decision-making mechanisms. The European Union's foreign policy was also addressed, reflecting the EU's contribution to key issues of global governance, security and, in particular, the regional dimension of Latin America.

This has been an exceptional opportunity for participants not only to get to know the EU and its external and trade relations, but also to share best practices in addressing challenges such as climate change, the fight against inequality, and economic transformation.

This activity took place in the framework of the EU-funded project "EU Policy and Outreach Partnership in South America - Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Uruguay, Chile". The College of Europe is a partner of the Consortium implementing the project under the leadership of the Organization of Ibero-American States.
