Professor Dr WAMBACH has been President of ZEW, one of Germany’s leading economic research institutes, since April 2016. Currently, he is also acting head of the ZEW Research Department “Environmental and resource Economics, Environment Management”. Professor WAMBACH has been a member of the Monopolies Commission since 2014 and its chairman since 2016. In September 2018 he was appointed co-chair of the Federal Government's “Competition Law 4.0” commission. Professor WAMBACH is also a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, which he chaired from 2012-2015.
Achim WAMBACH received his PhD in Physics from Oxford University and then a Master of Science in Economics from the London School of Economics. He completed his habilitation in economics at the University of Munich and was Professor of economics at the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg before taking on the position of director of the Institute for Economic Policy (iwp) at the University of Cologne. For the 2017/2018 term of office he was chairman of the Verein für Socialpolitik.
Professor WAMBACH has an extensive list of publications in top journals (The American Economic Journal, Economic Theory, Rand Journal of Economics,…). His field of interest include, among other things, market design and competition policy.
