60th anniversary celebration of the Treaty of Rome

From 09:00 till 13:00

Canal at Dijver

Saturday 25th March was a special date for the European Union, thus also for the students of the College of Europe. Hence, they took their share in the celebration of the Treaty of Rome 60th anniversary under the sunny sky of a beautiful Saturday morning on the shore of the Bruges’ canals.

After over a week of preparation, the project ‘The European Union: Together with its Citizens’ started off at 8:00, while the first students set the booth in place and welcomed the few first passers-by. Thanks to information leaflets about the EU, goodies and other interactive communication tools given by the European Commission, the Province of West-Flanders, Europe Direct and Europahuis, the students talked explain the passers-by what future can be expected from that particular date onward.

The visitors were eager to understand the functioning of the EU better and to discuss these matters personally with our students making them curious to find out more about the EU, its institutions and many areas in which the EU plays a prominent role.

This initiative was taken by Mrs Lucile FLEURET and Mrs Claire CALMELS, supported by the Student Affairs Office and over 50 College students. They hope that their initiative will be repeated regularly in the times to come.

A new Facebook page has been created to insure the continuation of this project of bringing Europe closer to its citizens.
