Conference on "The Modernization of State Aid Rules"

London, United Kingdom

On 11 January 2013, the Global Competition Law Centre (in collaboration with King's College London and with the support of DG Competition) organises a conference in London on The Modernization of State Aid Rules.

Mr Joaquín ALMUNIA, Vice President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Competition, will speak at the conference.

Vice President ALMUNIA will share his views on the place of State aid policy among the pillars of the European project and its heightened significance for our economy and society in these troubled times. More than ever, the European Commission’s control of government subsidies across the entire EU can help Europe’s governments make the most of increasingly scarce public resources. The overhaul of State aid policy that was launched in May 2012 is designed to help them improve the quality of public spending in pursuit of objectives of public interest and to support projects for growth and job creation that the market would overlook if left to its own devices.
