Germany’s action on the euro crisis has led to a deterioration of its image in the world. Even at the College of Europe the German students are faced with criticism by fellow students. Therefore, we want to make use of the Franco-German National Week and try to find answers to common questions and respond to certain prejudices in the form of a debate. Is the German angst concerning inflation justified? Is the German export surplus a burden for the euro zone? The main objective of our debate is to portrait the diversity of German views on how to best tackle the crisis and the German responsibilities in it.

We are pleased to welcome the specialists Dr. Nicolaus HEINEN, Deutsche Bank Research, Prof. Dr. Markus C. KERBER, Technical University of Berlin / Europolis, and Dr. Ansgar RANNENBERG, Hans Böckler Foundation / Institute for Macroeconomics, to discuss these questions amongst others. Cerstin GAMMELIN, journalist of Germany’s biggest daily newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, will lead through the debate which is open to all students and staff of the College.

Prior to the start of the debate Professor Patrice Neau, President of the Franco-German University, will give a short "mot d'accueil". Our official partner will in this way present you the importance of bi-national cooperation in higher education and research between France and Germany.

Subsequent to the debate, a tasting of Franconian wines will take place in the foyer of Dijver – provided by the vineyard of Artur Steinmann.

This is a closed event only open for students and staff of the College of Europe.
