On Friday 22 February 2019, 14.00-15.30, Ms. Mady DELVAUX, Member of the European Parliament, gave a lecture on artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, their development and use foreseeable in the next 10 to 15 years.

Ms. Mady DELVAUX is the author of a European Parliament report on artificial intelligence and robotics. She presented her report, what she wanted to achieve with it, how it was developed, what the reactions were and what the future of the topic is in her view. She will also talk about the social dimension of AI and robotics (effects on jobs, robots in elderly care).

The advent of AI and robotics creates new opportunities and risks, necessitating new forms of rule and regulation. Amongst the recommendations contained in Ms. DELVAUX’s report are the establishment of an EU agency for robotics and AI, an advisory code of conduct for robotics engineers and a new reporting structure to take account of robotics and AI for the purposes of taxation.

Ms. Mady DELVAUX is a Luxembourgish politician and Member of the European Parliament (MEP) since 2014.  She is a member of the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D), Vice-Chair of the Committee on Legal Affairs. and also a member of the Special committee on financial crimes, tax evasion and tax avoidance. She served as Minister of Transport from 1994 to 1999 and as Minister of Health, Social Security, Youth and Sport from 1989 to 1994.
