“The Fast and the furious: Speeding up the green transition Brussels” – Conference of the Energy and Climate Chair

The IBERDROLA Manuel Marín Chair for European Energy and Climate Policy organised on the 12th April its annual conference entitled “The Fast and the furious: Speeding up the green transition”.

The event was opened by European Commissioner for Environment Virginijus Sinkevičius and CEO of Iberdrola Armando Martínez. The conference was composed of two modules:

1) “Renewables at full speed – what are the possibilities?” explored the nexus renewables-environment, in particular in relation to expedited renewables permitting, offshore and onshore wind energy. It explored the question of how fast the expedited deployment of renewables can go, and which challenges need to be met regarding the energy system, biodiversity and social acceptance.

2) EU's Green Deal Industrial Plan. This module was opened by a keynote with Belgian Energy Minister Tinne Van Der Straeten. The keynote was followed by a panel discussion on what the different design options of the Plan are, and how the European Commission's NZIA proposal should be evaluated in relation to the Green Deal Industrial Plan.

Mark Jacobson, Professor at Standford University, recorded a lecture in the framework of the conference "No Miracles Needed: How today's Technology Can Save Our Climate and Clean Our Air". Watch his lecture below.
