Launch of the 2023 ‘Africa-EU Competition Week’

From 13/02 09:30 till 16/02 17:00
Verversdijk, Bruges campus

The second Africa-EU Competition Week will take place at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium over the course of four days, from 13 to 16 February 2023 and will focus on investigative procedures and analytical frameworks in competition law enforcement. This will include discussing experiences covering the different steps of competition investigations and proceedings, ranging from information gathering tools and case management, through to frameworks for economic assessment and the design of remedies. It will cover cartels, merger control, abuse of dominance, State interventions in markets and interactions with sector regulators. The programme will include dedicated plenary sessions and workshops for smaller groups to facilitate discussion.

Leading academics, practitioners, and officials from both the EU and Africa will take part in the event.

Participants are officials of national and regional competition authorities and related government bodies in Africa.

This is a restricted by invitation only event. Sessions will be held in English and in French.

With these events, the European Commission and African national and regional competition authorities continue developing the new platform for exchange and dialogue created during the first Competition Week. The objective is to encourage convergence in the area of competition policies and to promote the creation of a market that benefits consumers and companies both in Africa and the EU.
