Launch of ‘Africa-EU- Competition Weeks’

The first Africa-EU Competition Week will take place online from 14 to 23 February 2022

Thursday, 10th February 2022 : The European Commission’s Directorate General for Competition (‘DG COMP’), in partnership with the Service for Foreign Policy Instruments of the European Commission, launches the first Africa-EU Competition Week.

This event is the first of three events that will be organised by the Commission in cooperation with the College of Europe. It will be complemented by another Africa-EU Competition Week and a High-Level Conference on Africa-EU cooperation in the field of competition policy and enforcement.

The first Africa-EU Competition Week will take place online over the course of five days, from 14 to 23 February 2022. Leading academics, practitioners and officials from the EU and from Africa will take part in the event, which will cover a wide range of topics, including policy and enforcement trends in the field of cartels, abuse of dominance, merger control and State aid. Up to 100 participants from African public sector (including national, regional and African Union-level institutions) are expected to join the event.  The programme will include live lectures, workshops and panel discussions.

With this event, the European Commission will create a new platform for exchange and dialogue on competition policy and enforcement with national and regional competition authorities in Africa. The objective is to encourage cooperation in the area of competition policies and promote a level playing field, to the ultimate benefit of consumers and companies both in the EU and in Africa.

This project is funded by the European Union.
