LAW Honorary Lecture in honour of Professor Hanns ULLRICH

The LAW Department organizes an honorary lecture in honour of Professor Hanns ULLRICH on Thursday 9 February, from 18:00 to 19:15 in Auditorium 1: "The new “Unified Patent Court” – An example of differentiated (dis-)integration?" by Professor Hanns ULLRICH and Professor Thomas JAEGER. Its establishment will bring a considerable institutional change in the EU's judicial structure.

Professor Hanns ULLRICH has taught the seminar “European and Intellectual Property Protection: New Technologies, Trademarks, Designs and Copyright in the Common Market and on Global Markets/Protecting Innovation and Creation by Intellectual Property: The EU Framework” at the European Legal Studies Department of the College of Europe for 31 years (1990-2021). He relentlessly and enthusiastically combined his yearly teaching in Bruges with an outstanding international Academic career. As such he was inter alia Professor of civil law, commercial and Business Law and Head, Institute of Comparative Business Law, Technology Law and Law of Public Procurement at the Universität der Bundeswehr Munich and holder of the Chair on Competition Law and Intellectual Property Law at the European University Institute (E.U.I.) (2000-2006); until today he remains a prominent Associated Researcher at the Max-Planck-Institute for Innovation and Competition, Munich (Germany). Many authoritative publications on EU intellectual property /competition law carry his signature. Besides his own books and articles, his critical analysis and writings have already early on had a decisive impact on research carried out by others. Often invited as speaker at international conferences, Professor Hanns ULLRICH is also active as an expert for the national government and various international organisations (EU, UNCTAD, WIPO). He has served as a model of academic excellence for the College students and, for well over 20 years, has been a much appreciated member of faculty of the European Legal Studies Department of the College of Europe in Bruges. He has actively contributed to the reputation and visibility of the College of Europe in international (academic) settings and is a permanent Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition.
