Presentation of UNDP report: Insights on irregular African migration to Europe and its connection with development

The report Scaling Fences: Voices of Irregular African Migrants to Europe was published by the United Nations Development Programme on 21 October 2019.  It aims to provide insights on the phenomenon of irregular migration to Europe, as well as humane and long-term approaches to the phenomenon of migration.  According to the UNDP, complex questions of migration and development are intertwined and migration represents a reverberation of development. This trajectory is, however, failing young African people coming to Europe, especially, nearly two thousand irregular migrants who left their homes across 39 African nations.

The event organized by Young Diplomats consisted of:

  • 11:00-11:40: presentation of the report by the UNDP Representative;
  • 11:40-12:00: Q&A session;
  • 12:00-12:30: brief reception in the Djiver foyer with invitees.
