MATA book launch - "Chip War: The Fight for the World's Most Critical Technology" by Professor Chris Miller

On 17 November 2022, the MATA programme launched the book, “Chip War: The Fight for the World’s Most Critical Technology”, a geopolitical history of the computer chip, listed by the Financial Times as one of the best business books of the year, authored by Prof. Chris Miller, MATA Academic Director at the Fletcher School.

Prof. Miller presented the findings in his new book and discussed how chips have become the most important component of the industrialized and globalized world – making most sectors dependent on its presence and creating vulnerabilities for importing countries. He also emphasized the geopolitical impact of the importance of chips in terms of transatlantic relations vis-à-vis China.

Mr. Guillaume Ragonnaud, Policy Analyst at the European Parliamentary Research Services, provided a European perspective on semiconductors and their growing geopolitical importance as evidenced by the European Chips Act. MATA Director Michele Chang moderated the discussion.
