On 9 February 2021, the European Union (EU) Delegation to Yemen, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) co-hosted a presentation of a joint paper on the economic dimensions of the conflict in Yemen.
Dr Achim WENNMANN and Fiona DAVIES, co-authors of the report, presented the findings, stimulating an exchange on the economic dimensions of Yemen’s conflict as well as the relevance of economics in conflict and peace processes elsewhere. The report presents findings from 20 interviews with interlocutors representing different constituencies within Yemen and the international community. The paper analyses the economic drivers of the Yemeni conflict and potential opportunities for peace.
The report was produced in 2020 with the support of the EU project European Resources for Mediation Support (ERMES III) and can now be downloaded here.
ERMES III is an EU project financed by the FPI's Instrument contributing to Stability and Peace. The College of Europe is the consortium leader in charge of implementing the project. The other consortium members are leading organizations specialized in mediation and dialogue: the European Centre for Electoral Support (ECES), ESSEC IRENÉ, Fondation Hirondelle, Interpeace, and MediatEUr.
