EU-funded project El-Hiwar II – Briefing on the Report ‘Global Trends to 2030: Challenges and Choices for Europe’ and its implications for Euro-Arab Relations

On 27 August 2019, and within the context of the EU-funded project El-Hiwar II, a briefing event on the European Strategy and Policy Analysis System (ESPAS) Report ‘Global Trends to 2030: Challenges and Choices for Europe’ took place at the EU Delegation in Cairo. It gathered staff from the EU Delegation and EU Member States' embassies in Cairo.

Ms Florence GAUB, lead author of the report and deputy director of the European Union Institute for Security Studies (EUISS), led the presentation. Seismic global power shifts; pressure on liberal democracies; challenges to global governance; the transformation of economic models and the very fabric of societies; new uses and misuses of technology; contrasting demographic patterns; and humanity’s growing ecological footprint were some of the topics covered during the event, together with implications for Euro-Arab relations.

El-Hiwar II: Training and Information Course on Euro-Arab Diplomacy, is a project funded by European Commission DG NEAR and implemented by the College of Europe. It is conceived as a dialogue tool for the EU and the LAS to support strengthened work relations and to learn about each other's functioning, mechanisms and policies.
