Programme

This immersive five-day seminar on EU energy policy combines lectures, debates, guided discussions, study visits, and a simulation game to integrate theory with practice. The course is structured as follows:

Module 1 | Understanding the Policy Context: an overview of EU energy policy, its governance structures, and the broader energy landscape.

Module 2 | Addressing Consumer Interests: examining the role of consumer needs in shaping EU energy policy and industrial competitiveness in shaping EU energy policy and the transition to a net-zero economy.

Module 3 | Meeting Europe's Energy Demand: exploring the EU's approach to ensuring energy security and meeting growing demand through grid modernisation and sustainable solutions.

Module 4 | Study Visits to EU Institutions and Key Stakeholders (Brussels): an opportunity to observe the inner workings of the EU institutions and meet with officials directly involved in energy policy.

Module 5 | Putting Policy into Practice – Simulation Game: a practical session designed to simulate the roles of key actors in energy policy decision-making, with a focus on implementation challenges and the priorities of the current Commission mandate.
