Job Vacancy – Research Assistant (50%) to the InBev-Baillet Latour Chair of European Union-China Relations at the College of Europe Bruges

The Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies at the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium, is seeking applications for the position of a half-time Research Assistant with a starting date as soon as possible. The successful candidate will assist the Chair of European Union-China Relations, which is financed by the InBev-Baillet Latour Fund.

 

We are looking for recent graduates, preferably candidates with some familiarity with the College of Europe, with

  • a Master’s degree, preferably in EU Studies and/or International Relations, with an excellent average grade (at least 15 out of 20, mention ‘very good’),
  • an interest in EU-China relations (e.g. pursuing a Ph.D. in this field),
  • an excellent command of English and a very good command of French,
  • the ability to work as part of a team,
  • a demonstrated capability in developing research projects; experience with editing publications and with organising events would be considered an asset,
  • good communication and organisational skills, and
  • a high measure of flexibility regarding working hours.

 

Tasks include

  • assisting the Chairholder in research and teaching (e.g. organisational back-up for a course and conferences, academic advice to students, editing publications),
  • working together with a team of Academic Assistants in the Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies,
  • contributing to the Department’s administration,
  • conducting research and academic writing, and
  • editing the e-journal ‘EU-China Observer’.
