Carsten GERARDS

As Principal Coordinator and Assistant to the Rector, Carsten GERARDS (DE) supports the work of the Rector by preparing dossiers and following up on decisions as well as liaising with all services and departments.

Between August 2018 and January 2021, Carsten worked as (Senior) Academic Assistant at the College's Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies.

While pursuing a PhD project at Leiden University, he is – as an External Research Fellow – also affiliated with the Center for Turkey and EU Studies at the University of Cologne.

Prior professional experiences include positions at the Centre International de Formation Européenne (2016-2021), University of Cologne (2014-2017), Schwarzkopf Foundation (2015-2017), University Duisburg-Essen (2013-2014) and the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies (2011-2013).

Carsten holds an MA in European Interdisciplinary Studies from the College of Europe, Natolin (Simone Veil Promotion, major ‘The EU as a Global Actor’). In 2016, he graduated from the University of Cologne with a State Examination (‘Staatsexamen’, master level) in Social Sciences/Philosophy and, additionally, Mathematics (2019). He spent an Erasmus semester at Warwick University (2015) and completed his teaching internships in Bucharest (2014).
