Jovan Kurbalija (CH/RS) is founding Director of DiploFoundation and Head of the Geneva Internet Platform (GIP). Between July 2018 and June 2019, he served as  Executive Director of the Secretariat of the High Level Panel on Digital Cooperation established by the UN Secretary-General António Guterres. He is a former diplomat with a professional and academic background in international law, diplomacy and information technology. In 1992, he established the Unit for IT and Diplomacy at the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies in Malta. In 2002, after 10 years of successful work in training, research and publishing, the Unit evolved into DiploFoundation. Jovan Kurbalija currently directs online learning courses on ICT and diplomacy and lectures in academic and training institutions in Switzerland, the United States, Austria, Belgium, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Malta. His main areas of research are diplomacy and Internet governance, e-diplomacy, online negotiations, and diplomatic law. His book, An Introduction to Internet Governance, has been translated into 9 languages and is used as a textbook for academic courses worldwide. He holds a BA, LLM and PhD in Law from the University of Belgrade and an MA in Diplomacy from the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies, Malta.
