College of Europe welcomes Prof. David Phinnemore as visiting scholar

Prof. Dr. David Phinnemore, Professor of European Politics at Queen’s University Belfast, is joining the College of Europe in Bruges as a visiting scholar for the second semester of the academic year 2022-23. He has been a visiting professor in the Department of EU International Relations and Diplomacy Studies since 2008.

During his sabbatical leave at the College, Prof. Phinnemore will conduct research and roundtables in the framework of the multi-disciplinary project “Governance for ‘a place between’: The Multilevel Dynamics of Implementing the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland”, funded by the UK’s Economic and Social Research Council. The project looks not only at the operation of the unique external EU governance arrangements established by the Protocol, but also considers them in comparative perspective. Prof. Phinnemore will also deliver the optional course “EU Enlargement and UK Withdrawal” as well as a compact seminar on “Differentiated External Integration: The Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland in EU-UK Relations”.
