EU-funded project El-Hiwar II - Training for the Arab League on EU negotiations, strategic thinking and communication skills

In the framework of the EU-funded project El-Hiwar II, the College of Europe Executive Education, Training & Projects Office organised from 10 to 14 October 2021 a week-long online training for staff members of the Arab League Secretariat and of the European Commission League of Arab States Liaison Office (ECLASLO) to enhance their skills in EU-related matters.

A variety of modules were included in the programme ranging from negotiation skills to communicating skills (to enhance one’s impact when interacting with partners such as the EU). Two days were also devoted to developing a vision for EU-LAS joint cooperation by learning about concepts and tools for situational analysis and strategic thinking.

The last day of the training consisted in a real-life simulation exercise of an EU negotiation where each participant had to play the role of an EU institution or an EU Member State.

The objective was to help participants become more familiar with EU processes while reinforcing key skills that can be useful in their regular contacts with EU colleagues.

The training was closed with a speech by Mr. Christopher CUTAJAR, Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Malta.

El-Hiwar II: Training and Information Course on Euro-Arab Diplomacy, is a project funded by European Commission DG NEAR and implemented by the College of Europe. It is conceived as a dialogue tool for the EU and the LAS to support strengthened work relations and to learn about each other's functioning, mechanisms and policies.
