Stefanie MAERTENS joined the College of Europe Development Office as Project Assistant in May 2011. With more than thirteen years of professional experience in working in a multicultural environment, she assists the project managers in organising the logistics of events, meetings, conferences, seminars, international training courses and workshops at the international level. Moreover, since 2013 she holds a key expert position as Event Organiser in the EU-funded project on Euro-Arab relations called “El-Hiwar”, set up to improve the flow of information and dialogue between the League of Arab States and the European Institutions. Within this position, she is responsible for organising training courses, briefings, summer schools and round table events in Brussels, Cairo and Malta.
For four years, she was project assistant in the academic cooperation with the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO). Additionally, she has been involved in the organisation of diplomatic and executive training courses in Latin-America under the EU Policy and Outreach Partnership project. Finally, in relation to the Development Office's executive training offer, she assists in the implementation and planning of the ‘Intensive Seminar on the EU’, the ‘Negotiations in Practice’ and the ‘EU Diplomacy & Diplomatic Skills’ courses.
Prior to joining the College of Europe, she worked for eight years at the International Training Department of WES Research & Strategy in Bruges, where she organised training courses for both private and public organisations, mainly for participants coming from various developing countries in Africa, Asia and South America. She holds a Master’s degree in Translation English-Spanish, is Belgian and speaks Dutch, English, French and Spanish.
