On 20 November 2020, the Natolin Energy and Climate Governance Nest at the College of Europe in Natolin, within the framework of its special lectures, organized a webinar on NATO’s approach to climate change.
On this occasion, our distinguished guest was Mr Julian WIECZORKIEWICZ, analyst at NATO’s Political and Security Affairs Division and alumnus of the College of Europe in Natolin.
"NATO and Climate Change"
During the webinar, our speaker presented strategic documents that frame NATO’s policies in the field of climate change and provided practical examples through which the NATO Alliance deals with the mounting threat. Our students had the chance to discuss with Mr WIECZORKIEWICZ about the nexus between climate change and the security environment, referring to specific examples (in the Artic region; the MENA region and Eastern Europe). Our guest unfolded some of the current discussions on climate taking place at the NATO HQ and discussed ways in which the NATO Alliance could embrace those issues in the course of its broader adaptation.
About the speaker:
Mr Julian WIECZORKIEWICZ, is an analyst at NATO’s Political and Security Affairs Division where he covers relations with Russia. Prior to that, he worked at the Polish Delegation to NATO and at the Centre for European Policy Studies, a leading Brussels-based think-tank. He has published extensively on themes related to energy security and climate change. Mr WIECZORKIEWICZ is an alumnus of the College of Europe in Natolin (Maria Skłodowska-Curie Promotion 2011/2012).
