The Department of European Political and Governance Studies organised an event to honour Professor Jean-Paul JACQUÉ who has been appointed honorary professor by the Academic Council. This title is the most significant distinction conferred to professors in recognition of their academic excellence and longstanding service to the College of Europe.

Professor JACQUÉ is Honorary General Director and former Director of the Legal Service of the Council of the EU and Professor Emeritus at the University of Strasbourg. He has been a visiting professor at the College from 1978 to 2023, starting with a course on the European Parliament in “Etudes européennes pluridisciplinaires” (now European General Studies) and a course on international and European law in the Law Department. He then for many years taught the compulsory course “Droit institutionnel de l’Union européenne” in the European Political and Governance Studies Department. He is the author of a book with the same title which has in 2023 been published in its 10th edition.

Le professeur JACQUÉ était accueilli par la rectrice Federica MOGHERINI, qui lui a remis le certificat de professeur honoraire du Collège d'Europe, et par la professeure Sieglinde GSTÖHL, directrice par intérim du Département de politique.

La professeure Ségolène BARBOU DES PLACES a rappelé ensuite le long et hautement distingué parcours et les travaux académiques du professeur JACQUÉ.

A la suite de cette introduction, le professeur JACQUÉ a intervenu sur une question très actuelle, combinant aussi bien sa grande expérience pratique que son expertise académique : « Réviser les traités – nécessité ou illusion ? ». Cette intervention était suivie d’une séance de questions-réponses.
