Discussion by the Digital Transformation Nest: "So close, yet so far - the State of the AI Act Negotiations and its Discontents"

On 18 January 2024, the Digital Transformation Nest hosted a discussion on the current state of the EU's AI regulatory landscape, the world’s first comprehensive AI law, and its regulation in Europe.

The talk provided an overview of the recent debates, controversies, and compromises in the AI Act trilogue, as well as identified the most influential actors and interests that shape the emerging European AI ecosystem. The talk also situated these legislative efforts in broader political, technological, and regulatory (USA, China, OECD, UN) contexts.

Speaker Mr Filip KONOPCZYŃSKI, attended the discussion. Mr KONOPCZYŃSKI is a lawyer and analyst at the Panopton Foundation in charge of AI and emergent technologies regulations, specializing in AI and emerging technologies and the digital economy. Co-founder of Kalecki Foundation, Fellow of the German Marshall Fund of the US and Visegrad Insight, he previously worked for NASK, IDEAS NCBR, OKO.PRESS and Polish Commissioner for Human Rights. His articles were published in Gazeta Wyborcza, Przekrój, Newseek, Visegrad Insight, Kultura Liberalna, Krytyka Polityczna, Magazyn Kontakt and others.
