An annual tradition in changing times: Model United Nations in Natolin

Under the auspices of the Student Affairs and Professional Development Office at the College of Europe in Natolin, our annual Model United Nations simulation (MUN) took place on Sunday 30 January 2022. This simulation provided the students of the current Éliane VOGEL-POLSKY Promotion with a unique opportunity to experience the working of the United Nations.

MUN is an educational simulation in which students can learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations modus operandi. At a Model UN conference, students work as the representative of a country, organization, or person, and must solve a problem with other delegates from around the world. MUN teaches participants skills like research, public speaking, debating, and writing skills, in addition to critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership. The topic of this year’s simulation was “hybrid warfare in the XXI century”, this in the light to the Polish/Belarusian and Ukrainian/Russian escalating tensions.

Model UN is a popular activity for those interested in learning more about how the UN operates. Hundreds of thousands of students worldwide take part every year at all educational levels. Many of today’s leaders in law, government, business and arts – including at the UN itself – participated in Model UN as student. That is why the College of Europe in Natolin is dedicated to providing its students with this professional development opportunity every year.
