Dr Tamar GAMKRELIDZE publishes an article on the shortcomings and achievements of the Eastern Partnership
Dr Tamar GAMKRELIDZE, Postdoctoral Fellow and Coordinator of the ENP Chair Operations, published an article in Polski Przegląd Dyplomatyczny titled “Partnerstwo Wschodnie: mocne i słabe strony oraz perspektywy na przyszłość”.
The article summarizes the shortcomings and achievements of the Eastern Partnership (EaP), initiated by the EU in 2009, towards the countries in the Eastern neighbourhood after 15 years in the making and suggests the way ahead towards the enlargement. Despite offering platforms to promote political association, economic integration, and sectoral cooperation, the EaP has faced challenges in effectively managing security issues amid Russian influence.
Criticism regarding the EU's coherence and effectiveness in achieving its objectives has been heightened by Russia's military actions in the region, particularly the 2022 full-scale war against Ukraine. The article argues for the EU to strengthen the EaP and engage in closer governance with Eastern partners to ensure the success of the enlargement policy in the Eastern neighbourhood.
