On Monday, 17 April 2023, the College of Europe in Natolin welcomed the former Rector of the College of Europe, Prof. Jörg MONAR, for a special guest lecture entitled “The European Union and essential state functions: the case of internal security”.
Professor MONAR first joined the College of Europe in 1991 as Assistant Professor in the Department of Political and Administrative Studies in Bruges, later becoming Visiting Professor also at the College in Natolin. His courses featured in the European Interdisciplinary Studies academic programme for 27 years, making him the longest-serving professor in our programme to date. Professor MONAR became the 9th Rector of the College of Europe in 2013, concluding his term in August 2020. Amidst a myriad of academic accomplishments in a long and distinguished academic career, his service to the College (Natolin and Bruges alike) stands worthy of the highest mention.
In recognition of his contributions to European studies and his special merits to our institution, Prof. MONAR was bestowed the title of Honorary Professor of the College of Europe.
